Happy Halloween and stay safe this year. It’s tragic to say that innocent fun Halloween activities have the potential to turn sour. As much as children, as well as adults, would love to enjoy a night of “trick or treating” and spooky fun, here are hidden dangers around every corner you turn. It is up to the adults to teach their children about these dangers and be ever vigilant themselves. Since most people are not going to click on a link blinking “Halloween Safety Tips,” it’s better to just provide anyway.


1. Take your car when “trick or treating.” Your small children would never know the difference. They will get to show off their Halloween costume and they still will get goodies in their bags. If you have ever gone “trick or treating” with a small child, you know that you will end up carrying them at the end of the night. When everyone is too tired at the end of the night, a car is the fastest and quickest escape.

2. Start “trick or treating” during when the sun is still up. Most people used to wait until dark to build the dramatic spooky effect. Unfortunately, there are people who have trouble on their minds and night time is the only time that they can cause the trouble that they are thinking about. Now, trick or treating begins at dusk even if the sun is not down.

3. Travel in a group and stay together. Don’t let your child “trick or treat” alone. If you can’t go with your child, appoint a responsible adult as the chaperone. If you have older children, allow them to walk a few feet ahead of you, but not out of your eyesight. They will feel independent and you will have the peace of mind of know where your child is.

4. It may be hum-drum but always check your child’s treats. Everyone is not out to harm children but every year there are cases where pins and blades, and even drugs found in children’s Halloween goody bags.

5. Remove homemade treats and unwrapped items from you children’s bags. Bacteria can be just as dangerous as poison. You do not want your child to get sick from something complete avoidable.

6. Plastic bags can rip and tear. The cute little pumpkins don’t hold a lot of treats and the handle breaks. The best way option is a cloth bag.
